An Open Letter To The Kiddies

Originally I was going to do this as an audio post, but I didn’t get the chance to do it so Here is the typed up version of what I was going to say on the audio. I am not quitting podcasting, just taking a little time to re-invent the show and try bringing better entertainment to the masses. Read on and also you can comment on this post on http://www.voodooradio.org if you are reading this on Facebook.

Hello Kiddies!

For the past 5 years VooDooRadio has been known as bringing you what I considered the best in independent artists from all around the world. It has been geared as a musical podcast with random shit thrown in the midst. Whether it was fake commercials, character bits, movie reviews or whatever, I tried to make it entertaining as much as possible.

The show has not been done for some time for many reasons. I have said to people that it’s mostly because I have a family now. Family takes up time, but it’s more that I am burned out with doing the show the way it’s been for the better part of 5 years. As a matter of fact I began to do the show with the current format and half way into it I was just feeling “meh.”

I dreaded continuing the show because I couldn’t get the motivation to do the next segment I was gearing to do. And seeing the show is primarily unscripted, getting thoughts together has been a HUGE chore and I stumble over my words and that cuts down on the time I could record with no one around. But instead of picking up where I left off the following day, I just gave up and scrapped the entire recording. And I have been contemplating on how to change the show so I wouldn’t feel this way about it.

Going back over the years, some shows were awesome, some were total and utter shit, and some were mediocre at least. As it was said in Wayne’s World, “Led Zeppelin didn’t write tunes everybody liked. They left that to the Bee Gees.”

That being said, I feel it’s time to reboot the show and relaunch. The name will remain the same, but the format is going to definitely change. The music aspect has been pointed out as being the low part of the show and many folks have been fast forwarding through it.

I have been doing the show as a solo show since the inception. I have had guest hosts from time to time and a whopping 3 interviews which 2 actually were decent (the 1st and 3rd). I have shied away from having a co-host for so long because of the issues having one seemed to bring; like no shows, drama, egos, and lack of enthusiasm.

So, to breathe some new life into the show I will like to offer the position of co-host to anyone who will like to participate. Some people have suggested that it may add more energy to the show so I am highly considering it. However, I do have some criteria for candidates for the co-host position and they are as follows:

  • You must be dependable.

I want to get the show back on a schedule and to do this with a co-host I will like to make sure that both of us are doing the show. I understand that there are times that you won’t be able to do a show, but if it happens constantly where you are not able to do the show, I will be offering the show to someone else. I don’t mind a show here and there but 2 in a row will be subject to possible replacement.

  • You must bring content.

I have done the show with guest hosts that brought absolutely nothing to the show and it was garbage. If you are taking the position of co-host, you must have something to talk about. Some content to be considered for the show will be general geek related stuff (tech news, movies, TV Shows, etc) as well as bizarre stories and funny stuff on the net. We will discuss show topics during the week before the show.

  • Must be enthusiastic for the show

I don’t want someone that is just going to show up to do the show just to be on the show. I want someone that will help in promoting the show, getting guests for interviews and is excited to be on the show.

There are other things I would throw out there, but candidates for the position will be asked about them when I do a live interview with them. And by live I don’t mean you have to drive to me physically, I will conduct the interview over Skype or phone. I would like to build a rapport with you before venturing on with the show. Not trying to be a dick, I just want to get the show off it’s ass and not only just bring it back, but step up the quality of entertainment!

I definitely would like to offer this to anyone that has known me personally over the years, but I have lost touch with a lot of people and it’s tough for me to ask them to come over and do something I feel they may not think cool at all or just wouldn’t know what to say and act reclusive during a recording. If you think you would like to help me with the show as a co-host. Contact me on twitter, through facebook, call me at the VooDooRadio Hotline which is 413-437-0704, or email me at steve@voodooradio.org.

Now aside from the co-host option, the show will be changing it’s format. We will be evolving into a more talk show than the music show it once was. Music will be present but maybe a maximum of 5 songs per show as opposed to the 12 – 14 we used to have per show. The music may be used for breaks or as a showcase section.

There will be more show changes as we go on. The first few new shows will be definitely pre-recorded so that we can develop the co-host and re-branding situation. We will go forward with live shows when we discuss the methods to do so. I may return to uStream.tv but I dislike the chat room restrictions they pose so we may run the chat on an IRC server. But all of that will be dealt with once we get over the first hurdle.

All of the VooDooRadio original episodes I will be archiving for prosperity and I will be putting them as downloadable by year for you to have if you want. There are 10 episodes that are completely missing that I never was able to recover from the second year but all the shows I did will be available for download. Also I will be making a seperate part of the site for bits that I have done for you to download.

Times are changing and the show is too. This means we are going back to show 1 and as soon as I get a co-host in place we will release that. If you have a comment or want to pipe in. Please contact me at the methods I mentioned before.

Kisses on all your naughty bits, kiddies!
VooDooStevie
